A Hopeful Look at "The Wounded Church"

Fordham University Press has just released alum Annie Selak’s thoughtful book, The Wounded Church: Tending to the Harm Within Catholicism. Arguing that the Church must confront its own deep-seated injuries, rather than ignore them, to credibly minister to a bruised world, Selak takes on racism, clericalism and sexism in the institutional Church. She employs the guiding metaphor of the resurrected body of Jesus—scarred but no longer bleeding—to propose an ecclesial renewal that acknowledges its own brokenness, while remaining anchored firmly in an unyielding Hope that nothing is beyond God.
